South of Fifth occupies the blocks between 5th Street and the southern tip of Miami Beach, with water on three sides. It is small: you can walk its length in about fifteen minutes, which is the main argument for living there.
Morning
The promenade along Government Cut is the reason to be up early. Cruise and container traffic moves through the channel at close range, and the paved path runs from the marina to South Pointe Park and the pier without crossing a road.
Midday
The beach south of 5th Street is wider and considerably quieter than the stretch north of it. Walk up to the boardwalk and the character changes within two blocks.
Evening
The restaurants cluster along Washington Avenue and Ocean Drive’s southern end, at a scale closer to a neighborhood than to the entertainment district a few blocks north. Sunset is best taken from the park at the tip, facing west across the bay.
